Rail Vietnam is an independent guide to train travel in Vietnam.
This site covers every passenger railway that is operating in Vietnam, and it includes maps and how to buy tickets.
Rail Vietnam will also be covering future railways in Vietnam, including the North-South high-speed railway.
About the founder
Hi, I’m James Clark, and I’m the founder of Rail Vietnam. I have been writing about train travel in Vietnam for years, so I figured it was time to make a website.
I’m an Australian who has been based part-time in Vietnam since 2012, and I travel by train whenever I can. I write about my Vietnam train travels at Nomadic Notes, and I have written for Lonely Planet about taking the train in Vietnam. I’m also an admin of the Railways and Tramways of Việt Nam Facebook group.
I also write about future railway projects in Vietnam at Future Southeast Asia. There some exciting railway projects in the pipeline, such as the high-speed railway.
Travelling by train is a great way to experience Vietnam, but I’m also a realist when it comes to its current inadequacies. Many travel guides tend to over-romanticize train travel as a visitor to Vietnam, but it’s too slow to efficiently move a nation of over 100 million people. I’m looking forward to covering the new railways of the next Asian tiger.
