The Ho Chi Minh City – Can Tho Railway is a proposed railway connecting Ho Chi Minh City to to Mekong Delta region.
Phase 1 of the Ho Chi Minh City – Can Tho railway will be a single-track standard-gauge railway with a top speed of 160 km/h. The railway will be used for transporting passengers and freight.
The total length of the route is 175.2km, passing through 5 provinces: Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, Vinh Long and Can Tho City. The most recent proposal has construction beginning in 2028, with operations beginning in 2035.
There are also plans to extend the railway from Can Tho to Ca Mau at the southern tip of Vietnam. Other proposals have included extending the high-speed railway from Thu Thiem Station (HCMC) to Can Tho.
Plans for a new Mekong Delta railway go back to 2000, with numerous proposals having been made since then.
Ho Chi Minh City – Can Tho Railway route
The proposed line will have 12 stations, including:
– An Binh station (Di An ward, Ho Chi Minh City)
– Can Tho station (Hung Phu ward, Can Tho City)
3 depots (An Binh, Tan Kien, and Can Tho).
Can Tho 2 Bridge will be a road-rail bridge.
